A Bit About Us

Maine, fishing, hunting, family vacation

Merlin's Cove is a magical place. In some it would inspire poetry, in others just awe and peacefulness. The small cluster of seven cabins is nestled amongst the pines on a sandy cove at the north end of Lake Winnecook, (some maps call it Unity Pond) in central Maine. The grounds are beautiful with private beach and yard area that offers open grassy spaces and also shady trees. The view from the camp is nothing short of spectacular.

The housekeeping cabins have from one to three bedrooms, sleeping from two to six people. They are all fully equipped with furniture, linens, kitchen with utensils, and most have a fireplace in the living room and covered porch. Each one is different, but offers its own comfortable charm. The cabins are perfect getaways or vacations for sportsman and families. Through the years the camps have become popular for family or school reunions.

The Maine woods have the best of what mother nature has to offer. The surrounding forests are still home to a wide variety of wildlife and still unspoiled by man. Loons are regular visitors at the camp, and their haunting voices can be heard throughout the summer nights.

Spring and summer activities abound with excellent fishing. The lake is 3 miles long by 1.5 miles wide. It offers brook and brown trout, large and small mouth bass, perch and pickerel. For the discerning fisherman who require more variety, there are a number of other lakes, ponds, rivers and streams within easy reach of the camp. Families enjoy the sandy beach with gentle slope into the water for swimming. Water skiing and tubing are popular on the lake. Volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, and swings are also available in camp, as are picnic tables and grills. Camp fires are a favorite of the guests. They add so much to the outdoor experience and provide a wonderful way for strangers to meet. Don't forget your clubs. Lakeside Golf course is our neighbor and several other beautiful and challenging courses are just a few miles from the camp.

Fall and winter bring the foliage viewers and hunters. First the pixies paint the woods with color for those who appreciate nature's most spectacular views. Then come the hunters. Fathers and sons who stalk the woods seeking deer, bear, moose, fox, coyote and upland game birds, all revel in the splendor of natures changing scenes, just before Maine puts on its thick white blanket for winter.

As the woods turn white and the lake turns to ice, the skiers, snowmobilers and ice fisherman find their way to camp. For skiers and snowmobilers there are trails that tie into the Interstate Trail System #85. Our home on the lake is one of the most popular ice fishing lakes in Maine.
